People who own Liverpool are spread out more than they used to be. Even though FSG is still the biggest player, it recently gave Dynasty equity a small stake in the club.
At the same time, FSG has expanded into a more complex entity. Before, LeBron James was a straightforward part-owner of Liverpool. Now, the basketball star has a stake in the owners, which was raised earlier this year. RedBird Capital has also put money into the group, led by John Henry and whose chairman is Tom Werner, who also heads both the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool.
On a daily basis, these moves don’t have much of an effect on Liverpool, but it’s important not to forget how important LeBron is. As a huge global sports brand in his own right, FSG has tried to use that in the past, and it looks like they may do so again soon.
Also, FSG has other teams to manage, even though things are going well on the football field right now. The tough Red Sox season is now that the Texas Rangers won their first World Series yesterday. The next task for the team is to find a new General Manager. The Pittsburgh Penguins have had a rough start to the new NHL season. In other news, the NASCAR Cup Series is almost over. Leaked: A New Liverpool x LeBron Jersey
There were no public sales numbers for last year’s Liverpool x LeBron collection, but it seemed to do well. Not everyone liked some of the things, but they seemed to sell out quickly.
If the most recent “leak” is true, the club wants another crossover really badly. In fact, Footy Headlines says that a deal has already been made. The story shows a kit with a black base and blue trim, which is a good place for kit leaks.
Instead of the Nike swoosh, there is LeBron’s crown mark, and YNWA is the “sponsor.” In the background, the words “strive for greatness” are written over and over again. It’s planned to come out in early 2024. Also, LeBron was recently seen wearing a tracksuit with the Liverpool logo on it.
New Team Has a Name Chosen
As FSG continues to add more sports, one of the newest teams on its list will be one of the first teams in the TGL. That’s a virtual golf tournament that Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods helped put together.
FSG’s team hasn’t had a name until now. But Teddy Werner, the son of Liverpool chairman Tom, told the Boston Globe that a choice had been made. The group is going to be called Boston Common Golf. Werner talked about the choice:
“We thought it was absolutely essential that there was a strong connection to Boston through the game and identity system. Since the name wasn’t in the market, making this connection to Boston was even more important.” This is where the team’s name comes from: the first public park in the country and the city’s main green area.
The reason for this is that FSG insisted the team name not be silly, not mention Fenway, and not have the word “club” in it (which is used by two other TGL teams, the Los Angeles Golf Club and the Atlanta Drive Golf Club). “The definition of ‘common’ also helped TGL’s goal of weakening the strong links that golf still has with exclusivity and elitism.”
Branding has also been thought up. A frog has been picked as the team’s seal.
Liverpool.com says that FSG is taking a big risk by doing this, but TGL has the support of many important people. Arthur Blank, the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, is in charge of one of the teams. Alexis Ohanian and the Williams sisters are involved with the LA team. The first episode of TGL will air on January 9, 2019. 15 of the current top 20 players in the world are set to play, which is pretty amazing. There will be a game for McIlroy’s team against FSG.
Bad News for FSG’s NASCAR Team
It was a bit of a surprise for FSG that one of its Roush Racing drivers made it to the final eight of NASCAR’s playoff series, but the company won’t have anyone in the Championship race. Chris Buescher missed the final cut when he fell at the last hurdle.
The team is partly owned by FSG. Jack Roush and Brad Keselowski also own a piece of it, which is where the name Roush comes from. The second driver for the team is Brad Keselowski, who also made it to the playoffs but lost in the round of 12.
When Buescher talked to SiriusXM about his season and had it recorded by Sportskeeda, he seemed mostly positive, but he did admit he was disappointed. “So, great job all around. We knew it would take a little more to win this and move on, so we didn’t surprise ourselves. But, all things considered, I’m very proud of our year.
“We’ll be happy with what we’ve done this year, even though we didn’t make it to the next round.” We’ll get ready for next season by putting it all together.
