Sancho found himself excluded from United’s squad during their 3-1 loss to Arsenal last Sunday. Ten Hag later explained that the decision was a consequence of Sancho’s underwhelming performances in training. In response, the 23-year-old winger took to social media to counter his manager’s narrative, asserting that the claims were “completely untrue” and expressing that he had been unfairly labeled a “scapegoat.”

Giggs, a United legend with 963 appearances for the club, believes Ten Hag’s public critique of Sancho represents a final attempt to extract the best performance from a player who has struggled since his £72 million move from Borussia Dortmund two years ago.

“It looks like Ten Hag has tried everything with Sancho, really”, said Giggs. “It seems like it was the last throw of the dice – ‘I’ve tried everything, let’s call him out publicly and see how he reacts’.”

Giggs initially had high hopes for Sancho when he joined the club, but he noted that the winger’s progress has fallen short of expectations. “When he came to the club, I was actually a fan. I thought he could get better, he could improve, which he’s not really done in the short space of time he’s been at the club”, remarked Giggs.

The former United winger also emphasized that Sancho’s response to the situation is crucial. He suggested that Sancho can either rise to the challenge and prove his capabilities to the manager or sulk and make no progress.

Giggs underscored the importance of consistent training performances, saying: “Training was harder than the games. So you have to have those performances in training, to get yourself on that pitch on a Saturday, so he’s got to improve, I think that’s the bottom line.”

Giggs concluded by stressing Sancho’s responsibility to his teammates, emphasizing that the player must show dedication in training and not provide Ten Hag with reasons to leave him out of future matches.

Ultimately, Ryan Giggs believes that Sancho possesses the talent to turn things around and that the onus is on the player himself to make the necessary changes.
