Red Devils ‘plan to humiliate David de Gea’ and surrounding rumors

David de Gea only left Man United in the summer but growing concerns surrounding Andre Onana’s future absence could pave the way for a shock return.

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of offering David de Gea a short-term contract amid concerns over Andre Onana’s absence during the Africa Cup of Nations, according to reports.

David de Gea left United as a free agent this summer.

De Gea called time on a 12-year spell at United at the start of the summer, leaving as a free agent following the expiration of his contract. The club rejected an option to extend his deal for 12 months as they wanted to negotiate fresh terms and a significant pay cut.

The 32-year-old subsequently left and Erik ten Hag sanctioned a £47.2million purchase of Andre Onana, but his start to life at Old Trafford has not gone smoothly. The 27-year-old has since been recalled into the Cameroon squad and could miss a month of club football due to AFCON.

And as such, the Sun reports that United are considering a U-turn by asking De Gea to return on a short-term deal. The Spaniard remains without a club and is thought to be keen on remaining at the top level in Europe, having turned down offers from the Saudi Pro League.

Elsewhere, 90min reports that West Ham are ‘monitoring’ Jadon Sancho’s situation at United with a January exit looking increasingly likely.

Sancho has been exiled from the first-team by Ten Hag after effectively publicly accusing the manager of lying in a social media post last month. The Manchester Evening News understands he is open to leaving, should he remain in the cold beyond Christmas.

Jadon Sancho is of interest to West Ham

West Ham were tentatively linked with the 23-year-old in the summer and appear to have retained their interest. The report does not state whether any move would be on loan or permanent, and suggests any deal with a fellow Premier League club would be more complicated than a European move.
