Reports from football insiders confirm that Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has accepted an offer to become the head coach of Birmingham City, a club in the English First Division.

Rooney recently left his position as the head coach of DC United after the team failed to secure a spot in the US – MLS playoffs. This marked the fourth consecutive year that DC United missed the playoffs, despite winning their last match of the season 2-0 against New York City FC.
DC United’s performance in the fifth season was disappointing, with only 10 wins, 10 draws, and 14 losses in 34 MLS matches. The team finished in 9th place, falling short of a playoff spot.
Commenting on his departure, Wayne Rooney stated, “This feels like the right time. I’ve given my all to try and get this club into the playoffs. It’s not down to one thing. I’ve really enjoyed my time here, but I think now is the right time for me to return to England. I don’t know what the future holds.”
Birmingham City, currently ranked 6th in the English First Division after 11 matches this season, has reportedly chosen Rooney as their new head coach. The club’s American owners want to replace the current coach, John Eustace, despite the team’s decent performance.
According to reports from TEAMtalk, the Birmingham City owner has identified Wayne Rooney as their top choice for the coaching position in the English First League club. It is widely reported that the former Manchester United and Everton player has agreed to join Birmingham City, replacing John Eustace.
In his new role, Rooney is likely to work alongside former England and Manchester United teammates Ashley Cole and John O’Shea. The Manchester United legend previously managed Derby County in the English First Division from 2020 to 2022.
