Christian Eriksen, wearing the no. 14 jersey, played the full 90 minutes in Helsinki, while his United teammate Rasmus Hojlund joined the action at the beginning of the second half. Eriksen came close to opening the scoring with a powerful free-kick that was well saved by Finland’s goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky, in the 19th minute.
Eriksen operated in his customary creative number ten role for Kasper Hjulmand’s team, and although the Red and Whites dominated possession, they had to wait patiently for the breakthrough.
Manchester United’s summer signing, Rasmus Hojlund, made a positive impact during his 45-minute appearance, consistently pressuring Finland’s defense. This victory marked his 8th cap for Denmark in Group H.
Earlier in the day, another Manchester United player, Jonny Evans, led his nation as captain in Astana, Kazakhstan, where Northern Ireland suffered a 1-0 defeat. Evans played the full 90 minutes, and Maksim Samorodov’s goal in the first half proved to be the decisive strike.
This result followed Northern Ireland’s 4-2 loss to Slovenia on Thursday, leaving them in 5th place in Group H after six games.
