Liverpool’s star player, Mohamed Salah, has disclosed that there were genuine concerns about his Liverpool contract extension last summer, shedding light on the negotiations that secured his future with the club.

In a revealing document shared on Salah’s Instagram profile as part of a Harvard study, the negotiations between Salah, Liverpool, and his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, are outlined. The document includes a message from the agent to Salah, expressing doubts about reaching an agreement:
“I am starting to fear that we may not be able to come to an agreement on a new contract, Mohamed – their latest offer is still very far from what we want.”
The study provides insight into the ongoing talks, with Salah enjoying a holiday in Egypt following his exceptional 2021/22 campaign.

Salah describes his relationship with his agent as a partnership, stating, “We are partners. I know he’ll always do what is best for me.”
The document also highlights concerns about the negotiations not yielding a satisfactory outcome, with Salah facing the possibility of his long-term future lying with another club. Salah himself expressed his desire to stay with Liverpool but emphasized that the club needed to show its commitment to keeping him.
Despite the initial fears, Salah eventually signed a new contract, extending his commitment to Liverpool until the summer of 2025. However, there is still some uncertainty surrounding his future, as Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad showed significant interest in signing him this summer.
They made several high-value bids, with the highest offer reaching around £150 million, but Liverpool stood firm in their decision not to sell.

Salah has continued his excellent form since the interest from Al-Ittihad. In seven appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season, he has contributed four goals and four assists.
