Mohamed Salah Equals Thierry Henry’s Record with Latest Liverpool Goal

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah reached an impressive milestone during their Europa League clash against LASK on Thursday, equaling the record for the most European goals scored for an English club, a record previously held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Mohamed Salah began the Europa League match on the bench but was introduced in the 74th minute. By that time, Liverpool had already overturned an early deficit. However, Salah’s appearance added a final flourish to the scoreline.

Mohamed Salah scored his 42nd European goal for Liverpool on Thursday night

In the 88th minute, Darwin Nunez dispossessed Rene Renner and passed the ball to Salah, who found himself on the right side of the box with a tight angle to contend with. Nonetheless, the Egyptian calmly slotted his shot past LASK’s goalkeeper, Tobias Lawal.

Salah’s goal secured a 3-1 victory for Liverpool and propelled them to the top of Group E. Furthermore, this goal marked Salah’s 42nd goal in major European competitions, which include the Champions League and Europa League. With this achievement, Salah now shares the record for the most European goals for an English club with Thierry Henry.

Only Thierry Henry has scored as many European goals for an English club as Mohamed Salah

While Henry scored the majority of his European goals for Arsenal in the Champions League, Salah is well-positioned to break this record outright. He will have more opportunities to do so, with at least five more Europa League games scheduled for this season.

In addition to Salah’s milestone, Liverpool’s victory in this match marked manager Jurgen Klopp’s 50th European competition win. Klopp humorously remarked that people might “hate” the fact that he is now Liverpool’s most successful manager in European competitions. Nevertheless, Klopp praised his team’s performance and resilience, emphasizing their deserving victory.

Despite conceding an early goal, Klopp believed that his team displayed good moments during the game and commended their ability to overcome adversity. Liverpool’s successful start to the Europa League campaign, coupled with Salah’s record-equalling goal, provided reasons for celebration at the Raiffeisen Arena.
