Former Newcastle United star Alan Shearer believes William Saliba has been excellent for the Gunners throughout this season.
Shearer still praised Saliba even though Arsenal lost the match
Shearer spoke after Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the recent FA Cup third round. While commentating on BBC One, Shearer said:
“He’s having a fantastic season, Saliba, really! He’s been brilliant. He’s been fantastic, he really is.”
Saliba has made 28 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season. He scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist.
Saliba is still the mainstay of the Gunners’ defense
Arsenal did not play badly against Liverpool but still lost due to Jakub Kiwior’s own goal and Luis Diaz’s goal.
Saliba was praised for his performance against Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters after Arsenal were eliminated from the FA Cup, Arteta said: “It’s very difficult but if the team struggles and doesn’t play well and doesn’t deserve to win games then I will much more worried.”
“I’m worried because I like winning and we have to win many more games. Now that’s something we have to change and maybe the thing to reset is mentally.”
