Andre Onana might miss up to seven games for Manchester United

Cameroon’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has raised concerns for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, particularly regarding Andre Onana availability.

Andre Onana may miss up to seven games for Manchester United in January due to his international commitments.

Last month, Onana joined Cameroon for their crucial qualifier against Burundi after his summer transfer from Inter Milan to Manchester United for £43.8 million. Now, he is expected to participate in the AFCON, which runs from January 13 to February 11, causing Ten Hag to worry about his absence.

Ten Hag had initially convinced Onana to give up playing for the national team when he was selected as David de Gea’s replacement. However, they will need to discuss Onana’s goals in the coming weeks.

If Onana goes to Africa in January, Ten Hag will have limited goalkeeping options, with only the experienced Tom Heaton, aged 37, and recent £4.3 million signing Altay Bayindir available.

In addition to Andre Onana, other Manchester United players like Sofyan Amrabat (representing Morocco), Hannibal Mejbri (Ivory Coast), and Amad Diallo (Tunisia) are likely to participate in the AFCON.

Despite recent issues, Manchester United has included Antony and Jadon Sancho in its Premier League squad for the season. Antony is currently on leave of absence due to allegations of domestic abuse.

Jadon Sancho, who had previously irritated Ten Hag with a social media post following a loss to Arsenal, has returned to United’s Carrington training facility.
