The attacker scored twice as the Reds claimed a Merseyside Derby win over Everton on Saturday. Those goals ensured that he became the first Premier League player to to reach 30 goal contributions in 2023.

The Egyptian has also now overtaken Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish in the list of goals scored at Anfield. But there had been heavy doubts over his future at Liverpool in the summer as Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad pushed to sign him.

The Saudi side ultimately saw Liverpool reject their record-breaking bid for the attacker. And now Alisson had demanded that Salah stay for as long as possible after another match-winning performance.

“This guy is amazing. I’m so glad to have him in our team. I hope he can break all the records that he has in front of him as long as he keeps the red shirt on him!” Alisson told Liverpool’s club website.

“Every three points we can get is massive for us. Today was even more special for us as it was a derby. We know the importance for the supporters, for the city, for everybody and for us as well.

“We are going to keep fighting and let’s see what we can reach. It’s always tough to come back from the national team and play a 12.30. We were travelling a lot, going to South America and playing hard games, but I’m glad we could get the three points. That was massive today.”

Alisson stunned by what Liverpool teammate did vs Everton

Salah’s future could come into fresh doubt when the transfer window reopens in January. But back in the summer, boss Jurgen Klopp had insisted that he was confident Salah would remain with the Reds for some time to come.

“He played a top game. Mo had to work super hard and he did. I’ve never had, and I don’t have now, doubts about his future, his commitment to this club,” Klopp said in September.

“Believe me, you can’t imagine how much fuss the whole world makes and how calm we are with it. He’s our player, he wants to play here and that’s it. I didn’t realise a little bit of a distraction in the whole week, besides answering questions about it.

“I have no clue, nobody came to me and told me something could happen or whatever. I’m pretty sure I would have got a call but I didn’t. And Mo didn’t look for a second like he thought about anything else other than about Aston Villa, being involved in all the goals.

“He has unbelievable numbers but it’s not a surprise that he has the numbers. And he had chances on top of that and [is] involved in creating and setting up and all these kind of things. He’s a world-class player, no doubt about that and I’m really pleased he is in my team.”
